In Baltimore, Maryland, B&B Urban has purchased two empty commercial loft buildings constructed in 1890 located in the heart of Baltimore’s beleaguered historic center. We believe that this incipient Arts District, that still contains the empty shells of what was once a neighborhood of great historic character, will once again thrive with new uses inhabiting these once grand buildings. As a start, we intend to renovate these first two buildings at 301-307 North Howard Street into 15 live/work loft apartments and identify lively uses for the ground floor retail spaces. The Crook Horner Lofts is the first of what we hope will be many projects to aid in the revitalization of a city in great need of investment and renewal.

Crook Horner Lofts

Located at the corner of North Howard and Saratoga, the Crook Horner Lofts will bring 15 units of true loft apartments to downtown Baltimore along with two lively street-level spaces.

Built in 1890 for Crook, Horner & Co. Plumbing Supplies, and later housing Pollack’s Furniture and Rugs for many decades, 301 North Howard features soaring 14-foot ceilings and open floor plans. Adjacent 305 North Howard served as a mattress factory and antique furniture store.

A team led by NYC-based B&B Urban will undertake a renovation and conversion of the long-vacant historic properties, honoring the buildings’ past while creating dramatic and unusually spacious live/work loft apartments with street level spaces that add new vibrant uses to North Howard Street.

The project is in the heart of the Bromo Tower Arts & Entertainment District, close to Hippodrome Theatre, Everyman Theatre and the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower, and within walking distance of Downtown, the Inner Harbor and University of Maryland campus.

The renovation will adhere to Baltimore Commission for Historic and Architectural Preservation (CHAP) guidelines and utilize Maryland Heritage Structure Rehabilitation Tax Credits and Federal Historic Preservation Tax Credits.

When completed, the Crook Horner Lofts will deliver a truly unique rental apartment product, attracting artists and other young professionals alike who desire true loft-living, centrally located and unlike anything else in Baltimore.
